High uric acid levels in the blood can cause gout. The signs and symptoms include joint redness, swelling and tenderness, intense joint pain that is severe in the first 12 to 24 hours and lasts for a few days to weeks.

You can always buy anti-gout over the counter medications to control gout and high uric acid levels. These medications are packed with chemicals and sometimes can do more harm then good. Try these home remedies to manage the condition.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar is a common remedy for various body problems. ACV is a natural cleanser and it also detoxifies the body by removing waste products like uric acid. Moreover, it contains malic acid which helps the uric acid to break down and be eliminated from the system. It also restores the acid balance in the body, due to its antioxidant and anti inflammatory properties.

Add a teaspoon of raw, unpasteurized and organic apple cider vinegar to a glass of water. Take the mixture twice or three times a day. Use this mixture until the uric acid levels decrease. You shouldn’t take excessive amounts of it because it may reduce the potassium levels and interfere with the action of the diuretic agents.

Lemon Juice

Lemon juice also has an alkaline effect in the body and helps in neutralizing of the uric acid. What is more, it is rich in vitamin C which reduces uric levels in the body. Squeeze one lemon in a glass of warm water. Consume the mixture in the morning on an empty stomach. Repeat this every morning for a few weeks.

Avoid Purine Rich Foods

If you want to control the levels of uric acid in your body you need to avoid eating foods which are rich in purine. You can find purine in organ meet, sardines, herring, bacon, anchovies, asparagus etc.
